Can Nigerians Apply for Micro1 Jobs? What the Current Eligibility Rules Say

Micro1 says it recruits experts globally for remote AI-training projects, and Nigeria is not currently listed among the countries where the company says it cannot hire. That is encouraging for Nigerian applicants, but “remote” and “global” still do not mean that every vacancy is open from every country.

Nigerians are not currently excluded from Micro1's global expert programme. Micro1 states on its official expert information page that it hires talent from around the world, although legal, regulatory and security requirements prevent it from engaging people who reside in certain countries and regions.

At the time TechView Africa checked the policy, Nigeria was not among those excluded locations. That does not create automatic eligibility for every role, however. Some projects may be globally accessible, while others can impose their own geographical, professional, language or experience requirements.

For Nigerian applicants, the right question is therefore not simply “Does Micro1 accept Nigerians?” It is: “Does this particular Micro1 opportunity accept someone with my location, qualifications and experience?”

What Micro1's current global eligibility policy says

Micro1 describes its expert network as global and says it provides remote opportunities across fields including engineering, finance, healthcare, medicine, law, economics, linguistics and other areas. Its current published exclusion list includes Afghanistan, Belarus, China, Cuba, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Hong Kong, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Macao, Myanmar, North Korea, Russia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, Ukraine and Yemen. Nigeria is not on that list.

For a qualified professional living in Nigeria, this means there is no general Micro1 rule currently saying that Nigerian residents cannot participate in its expert network. That distinction is significant because many supposedly “remote” international jobs are actually restricted to applicants in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, European Union or another specified region. Micro1's broader expert programme is presented differently: the company says it recruits globally, subject to the restrictions above.

But “remote” does not automatically mean “Nigeria eligible”

This is where applicants need to be careful. A vacancy can say Remote and still contain another requirement limiting where the successful applicant may live or work.

This happens because individual projects can have different client requirements, employment arrangements, regulatory obligations, time-zone expectations or data-access restrictions.

Micro1 itself says that certified experts are matched according to their verified skills, project requirements and project availability. For that reason, Nigerian applicants should read the complete vacancy rather than stopping at the word “Remote.”

Before applying, check for phrases such as:

• US-based applicants only;
• must reside in a particular country;
• specific work-authorisation requirements;
• particular time-zone availability;
• regional professional licences;
• language requirements;
• minimum professional experience.

If none of those restrictions excludes Nigeria, and your skills match the role, the opportunity may be worth applying for.

What matters besides your country

Location is only one part of Micro1's selection process. The company says experts validate their skills before becoming eligible for relevant AI-training projects, while individual vacancies can demand very different levels of knowledge and experience.

A software-development project, for example, might require professional experience with Python, JavaScript, Rust or cloud infrastructure, while a legal project could require experience reviewing contracts, conducting legal research or interpreting regulatory requirements. Other projects may look for writers, accountants, scientists, medical professionals or specialists with expertise that has little to do with programming.

Micro1's guide to AI-training jobs explains that many of these positions involve evaluating AI-generated responses, annotating information, creating prompts or reviewing domain-specific material. That means Nigerian applicants should focus on vacancies where they can demonstrate real professional or academic expertise, rather than applying indiscriminately to every remote opportunity.

You may still have to complete an AI interview

Applying is not necessarily the end of the assessment. Micro1 uses an AI-powered interviewer called Zara as part of its candidate-assessment system, and applicants can be asked questions intended to verify whether they genuinely possess the skills required for a role.

The company's candidate privacy notice says this process can involve information such as professional experience, education, CV details and LinkedIn information, as well as audio or video recordings, interview transcripts and, for some technical assessments, screen-sharing recordings.

That makes it particularly important to use the genuine Micro1 website and understand what information you are submitting before beginning an assessment. Micro1 also says AI-generated evaluation results are subject to human oversight rather than being used as the sole autonomous hiring decision.

Passing certification is not the same as getting a job

Another important eligibility distinction comes after the assessment. According to Micro1, successfully validating your skills makes you eligible to be considered for projects that match those skills, but certification itself does not guarantee immediate work.

A Nigerian applicant could therefore:

• meet the country's general eligibility rules;
• successfully complete an assessment;
• become certified in a particular skill;

and still have to wait for an appropriate project.

Micro1 says project access depends on specific project requirements and availability, and certified profiles can remain active for future opportunities if no suitable project is available immediately. Applicants should therefore avoid treating certification as the equivalent of receiving an employment contract.

Check whether the role is employment or contract work

The word job can also describe different working arrangements on Micro1. Many of the expert opportunities TechView Africa has reviewed are advertised as remote contractor projects rather than permanent employment.

For example, a current AI Engineer opportunity is advertised as remote contractor work with a flexible schedule, while other opportunities on the platform can have different arrangements.

This matters for Nigerian applicants because contractor work may not provide the same benefits, working hours, guarantees or legal relationship associated with conventional salaried employment. Always read the Job Type, Location, Schedule and Compensation sections before deciding whether an opportunity suits you.

What Nigerian applicants should prepare

If you find a Micro1 opportunity that appears open to your location, focus next on demonstrating that your background genuinely matches it. Your CV should clearly describe relevant professional experience rather than filling space with unrelated information. Where a vacancy requests particular skills, make those skills easy to identify, but only list experience you can confidently demonstrate during an assessment.

Micro1 says applicants can also continue adding experiences and certifying additional skills to their profiles, potentially increasing the range of projects for which they may be considered. You should also prepare an English-language CV where requested, ensure your LinkedIn profile is accurate if you provide one, and be prepared to explain your professional reasoning during the assessment rather than relying on memorised answers.

Be careful with fake Micro1 recruitment messages

The growth of remote AI work also creates opportunities for impersonation. Micro1 states that its official communications come from email addresses ending in:

Treat unexpected messages from lookalike domains with caution, particularly if someone asks for money, banking passwords, verification codes or other information that would not normally be required during recruitment. For applications, the safest starting point is Micro1's official opportunities page rather than an unsolicited link received through social media or messaging apps.

What information does Micro1 collect during an application?

Applicants should also understand the privacy side of the process. Micro1's Candidate Privacy Notice says candidate information can include contact details, professional history, education, CV and LinkedIn information, location and work-authorisation information.

For AI interviews, the company says it may also process audio and video recordings, transcripts, assessment results, performance information and screen-sharing recordings where applicable.

That does not necessarily make the recruitment process unusual or unsafe, but candidates should know what they are agreeing to before submitting personal information.

Do not provide more information than the genuine application asks for, and review the applicable privacy terms before beginning an assessment.

Our Recommendation

For Nigerian professionals wondering whether Micro1 is worth considering, the current answer is encouraging: Nigeria is not generally excluded from Micro1's global expert network. That does not mean every Micro1 vacancy is automatically available from Nigeria. Treat each opportunity separately. Check the location requirements, professional qualifications, working arrangement, compensation structure and project-specific restrictions before applying.

If the role accepts your location and genuinely matches your expertise, there is little reason to reject the opportunity simply because you are applying from Nigeria. At the same time, keep expectations realistic. Passing Micro1's assessment can make you eligible for relevant projects, but it does not guarantee immediate placement, fixed working hours or continuous income.

The strongest approach is therefore simple: apply selectively, verify the vacancy, demonstrate genuine expertise and judge each project on its own terms.
