Key takeaway

Do not send money to an individual claiming to secure Dangote shares. Apply only through an approved channel, verify your BVN and investor details, and remember that submitting an application does not guarantee full allotment.

Here’s How and Where to Buy Dangote Refinery Shares at ₦525

Dangote Refinery’s IPO is moving from announcement to application. Here is where Nigerians can subscribe, what first-time investors need and what happens after payment.

Dangote’s official IPO portal lists 32 preferred approved subscription channels, including major banks, fintechs, MTN MoMo, Airtel SmartCash and NGX Invest. The minimum is 10 shares at ₦525 each, or ₦5,250.

Dangote Petroleum Refinery’s IPO is no longer just a story about a ₦525 offer price. For Nigerians considering the offer, the practical question is now: where do you actually go to buy the shares?

TechView Africa previously explained what the SEC approved and why the ₦525 price does not by itself make the shares cheap. Since then, Dangote’s official IPO portal and Vetiva, the lead issuing house, have published much more detail about how retail applications will work.

Where can you buy the shares?

Dangote’s official IPO website currently lists 32 preferred approved subscription channels. The banks include Access Bank, Ecobank, FCMB, Fidelity Bank, FirstBank, Globus Bank, GTCO, Jaiz Bank, Keystone Bank, Lotus Bank, PremiumTrust Bank, Providus Bank, Stanbic IBTC, Sterling Bank, TAJ Bank, UBA, Union Bank, Wema Bank and Zenith Bank.

Fintech options include Bamboo, Flutterwave, InvestNaija, Ladder, Moniepoint, Paga, Payaza, PiggyVest, Vetiva Invest and we.yan. Airtel SmartCash, MTN MoMo and NGX Invest are also on the official list.

Depending on the provider, applications may be available through an app, website, USSD, POS, ATM or branch.

How much do you need?

The offer price is ₦525 per share, with a minimum application of 10 shares, or ₦5,250. Additional applications must be in multiples of 10. That low entry point does not make the investment low-risk. The market price can rise or fall after listing.

Do you need a stockbroker or CSCS account?

Not necessarily before you begin. Vetiva recommends having a stockbroking account, CSCS number and Clearing House Number. But if you do not already have a CSCS account, its FAQ says an integrated broker can open one as your application is processed.

You will also need a valid bank account and BVN. Retail applications are electronic rather than paper-based.

When does the offer open?

Vetiva says the offer opens 14 September 2026 and closes 13 October. Reuters reported the same timetable after the 7 September signing ceremony.

However, Dangote’s public routing website was still displaying the dates as “to be confirmed” when TechView Africa checked on 11 September. Confirm the live timetable on your chosen approved channel before paying.

What happens after you apply?

Submitting an application does not guarantee every share requested. If demand exceeds supply, applications may be scaled back under the approved allotment process, and unused money from rejected or partially allotted applications is to be refunded.

Successful shares will be credited to the investor’s CSCS account and are intended to trade on the NGX Main Board after the SEC clears the final basis of allotment.

Avoid fake subscription channels

The refinery says investors should use only channels listed on its official IPO website and should never pay into a personal account or share a PIN, password or OTP.

That warning fits the same pattern TechView Africa found in our analysis of 200 scam messages sent to Nigerians: urgency and excitement can stop people from verifying before they pay.

Our Recommendation

Start with the official channel list, not a WhatsApp message or forwarded payment instruction. Check your BVN and bank details, understand how your chosen channel handles CSCS registration and read the prospectus before committing money.

A famous company does not guarantee a profitable investment. Use only money you can afford to keep invested and potentially lose.

Frequently asked questions

Can Nigerians abroad participate?

Vetiva says Nigerians in the diaspora may participate if they have a valid BVN and bank account, subject to the offer rules.

Will I receive every share I apply for?

Not necessarily. An oversubscribed offer can result in a smaller allotment, with unused funds refunded.

When can I sell the shares?

After the shares have been allotted, credited to your CSCS account and officially admitted to trading on the NGX.
